Mark Krueger

Head Coach: Mark Krueger

Mark Krueger concluded his sixth season as the head outdoor track & field coach for both the men and women in 2008.

Krueger, a 1999 graduate of The College at Brockport with a degree in Exercise Physiology and Teacher Certification, has received the SUNYAC Coach of the Year awards for cross country in 2002 and outdoor track & field in 2005. He was also named the Atlantic Region Coach of the Year for outdoor track & field in 2005 and again in 2008. He also earned the NYSCTC men’s outdoor track & field Coach of the Year award in 2007 and the NYSCTC men’s and women’s outdoor Coach of the Year this past season. Additionally, he was named the NCAA Atlantic Region Women's Track & Field Coach of the Year in 2008.

In 2008, the Outdoor Track & Field season was another successful one for the Golden Eagles. Under Krueger, Brockport sent eight athletes to the NCAA Division III National Championships, with three of them earning All-American honors. Junior Shannon O’Keeffe followed her indoor National Championship with a second place finish at the Outdoor Championships in the triple jump. Senior Josh Dupuis won his fifth All-American honor with a sixth place finish in the shot put and junior hammer thrower Dom Gonzalez was an All-American with his seventh place finish.

As a team, both the Golden Eagle men and women won New York State Championships in 2008. The women also took second at the ECAC Championships and the SUNYAC Championships. The men’s team took second at the SUNYAC Championships and was fourth at the ECAC Championships.

Krueger has led numerous teams and individuals to conference, regional, and national championship competition. Some of the top individual performances under the Krueger’s guidance include two second-place finishes in the javelin and the hammer throw, along with a fourth-place finish in the shot put, at the 2007 Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

In 2007-08 alone, in cross country and track & field, Krueger has led 11 athletes to the NCAA Division III Championships with five earning All-American awards. The 2006-07 season was arguably the best all-around season in school history. The teams earned the highest marks for track & field ever, with six Golden Eagles competing in the Indoor Championships and seven qualifying for Outdoor Nationals.

Assistant Coaches

Ed Jaskulski

Ed Jaskulski enters his fourth year with the program, and brings a great wealth of knowledge with him. As an undergraduate at SUNY Brockport, Jaskulski was a captain for the national powerhouse Golden Eagle football team, as well as a shot put and discus thrower for the track and field teams. As a senior, Jaskulski narrowly missed qualifying for the Division III nationals is the shot put.

Jaskulski's biggest contribution will come in the weight room, where he was formerly the program record holder in power lifting (1,735 lbs.). Jaskulski will apply his extensive strength and conditioning knowledge to the development of weight training regimens for the track and field teams.

Vanessa Martell Vanessa Martell

Martell is in her third year as assistant cross country and track & field coach. The 2004 graduate of SUNY Brockport with a degree in Physical Education and a minor in Recreation and Leisure competed for cross country and track teams at Brockport for three seasons after transferring from Finger Lakes Community College after her freshman year.

Aside from his colligate coaching experience; his extensive knowledge of the pole vault along with a dedicated crew has led him to run the Golden Eagle Pole Vault Clinic for the past three years. This event annually draws over 100 pole-vaulters from across the state and addresses safety, unique training methods, and a general promotion of the sport.

He also coaches Hilton junior varsity volleyball and is an assistant coach for the indoor and outdoor track and field team there as well.

Ken Ciolek

Ciolek begins his first season as an assistant coach for the Golden Eagles where he will be working with the jumpers, multi-event athletes and javelin throwers.

Before transferring to SUNY Brockport, Ciolek held records in the javelin (new Rules), decathlon, and heptathlon at Buffalo State and was an All-SUNYAC First-Team selection and national provisional qualifier in the decathlon. As a Golden Eagle, he achieved the school record for the new rules javelin, the SUNYAC meet record, and the Conference record. Ciolek was an All-American in that same event his senior year.

Ciolek has an USA Track and Field level 1 certification, and has attended numerous coaching summits and clinics in the north east. He has served as an assistant coach/volunteer for five years with stints at Bradford Area High School and Gates Chili High School.
