Melissa Wassink finishes fourth in her first cross country race
Melissa Wassink finishes fourth overall for the Golden Eagles
Freshman Melissa Wassink (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) led The College at Brockport Women’s Cross Country team - currently ranked 31st in the country - to a second-place finish as she crossed the finish line in fourth place overall Saturday at the Daniel Walker Invitational race at Buffalo State.
Wassink crossed the line in 20:11 – just 15 seconds behind race winner Alyss Smith from Geneseo. It was the first-ever cross country race for Wassink who competed on the girls’ soccer team in high school. Fellow freshmen Jen Fasciano (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) in 10th, Roxanne Smith (East Meadow, NY/East Meadow) in 13th, Katy Kohls (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca) in 15th and Katie Filozof (Conesus, NY/Dansville) in 20th each finished among the top 20 finishers.
