Brockport Welcomes Newest Golden Eagles
2,325 new students officially join the Brockport community
BROCKPORT, NY—The College at Brockport, State University, formally welcomed the newest members of its academic community on Aug. 25. 2,325 freshmen and transfer students officially became Golden Eagles during an Academic Convocation ceremony.
“Today marks the beginning of a partnership between you as our students and us as the professionals who are here to help you succeed,” Brockport President Heidi Macpherson told the incoming class. “We will each play our part in building a better Brockport together, in building meaningful lives and vibrant communities.”
The students also heard from a distinguished alumnus speaker, Patrick Roberts ’10, who offered advice on how the incoming class can maximize the years ahead.
“Always be opened minded,” Roberts said, “and never turn down a recommendation from your peers unless you give it honest thought. Always keep these doors open because you’ll never know what’s on the other side unless you walk through it.”
The class of 2,325 students, comprised of 1,270 freshmen and 1,020 transfer students, is one of the largest in recent Brockport history. And on Saturday, Aug. 26, they’ll come together to give back to the local community. Brockport’s newest students will participate in Saturday of Service, where they’ll spend the day doing community service work at 65 different locations around Brockport and Greater Rochester.
