Brockport Football Aims to Capture Conference Crown
The 10th ranked Golden Eagles take on Alfred this Saturday
BROCKPORT—The Brockport Golden Eagles football program has cracked the nation’s top 10, now it sets its sights on clinching its first Empire 8 conference title.
On Saturday at noon, The Golden Eagles (8-0 overall, 6-0 in Empire 8) host Alfred University (6-2, 4-1). A win would give Brockport the title and an NCAA Playoff berth—the program’s first NCAA appearance since 2003.
“We’re excited to play Alfred on Saturday in front of our home fans. We hope to see Eunice Kennedy Shriver stadium packed with green,” Brockport coach Jason Mangone said. “I’m proud of what our program has accomplished thus far this season and am looking forward to what we can still accomplish together.”
The Golden Eagles have outscored their last three opponents by a combined score of 126-7, including two consecutive shutouts of Empire 8 opponents. Their average margin of victory is nearly 28 points per game, behind the strength of the nation’s No. 8 offense (total yardage) and No. 12 defense. They lead the nation in sacks with 25.
Alfred has proven to be a challenge for Brockport, owning a 31-11 edge in the series. That included rallying to a late 30-28 victory over Brockport last season.
