About the Major
The Arts for Children Interdisciplinary Program is committed to teaching, scholarship, creative expression, and service related to the education of children in and through the arts. This program is unique in the nation. It fills a major need in providing substantive arts education training to prospective classroom teachers and others interested in the arts. Students in the program work together to create innovative child-based learner programs.
Interdisciplinary Education
The program's interdisciplinary approach helps students leverage new understandings that could not be obtained through singular discipline studies alone. For example, the program is often combined with a:
- Teacher certification program
- Second major in an art form (art, dance, literary arts, music, or theatre) offered by the College
- Second major in recreation and leisure studies or psychology to prepare for graduate studies in art therapy.
