Chancellor's Award & Distinguished Professor

The Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching is responsible for coordinating the SUNY Chancellor’s Award and Distinguished Professor nominations.

Previous award recipients please note:

  • Faculty currently holding Distinguished Faculty appointments may not be nominated for an Excellence Award in any of the categories.
  • Recipients of an Excellence Award may not be nominated for an Excellence Award in a different category for a period of five years.

Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Adjunct Teaching

Due to CELT on September 28, 2020
Open only to adjunct faculty with a current position at Brockport who have taught a total of 12 courses in the past five years. We can submit up to four nominations to SUNY for this award each year.

Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Faculty Service

Open only to full-time faculty (regardless of academic rank) who have at least three years of full-time service on our campus in the past five years. We can submit one nomination to SUNY for this award each year.

Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Librarianship

Due to CELT on November 9, 2020
Open only to full-time librarians with an MLS degree and at least three years of service on our campus in the past five years.

Chancellor's Award for Professional Service

Due to CELT on November 9, 2020
Open only to full-time professional staff who have been at the campus for at least three years. Professional staff meeting these qualifications who are in the Research Foundation, BASC and M/C are also eligible. We can submit up to three nomination packages to Albany for this award.

While all of the information you need to construct the nomination portfolio is contained in the campus guidelines, the SUNY guidelines provide additional information about the Teaching, Scholarship/Creative Activity, Faculty Service, Librarianship, and Professional Service awards.

Chancellor’s Award for Classified Service

Administered locally at Brockport by the Department of Human Resources, this is open to staff that have completed at least three years of continuous, full-time permanent service in the Classified Service position for which they are nominated. Contact Human Resources for SUNY and campus guidelines and deadlines.

Chancellor's Awards for Student Excellence

Administered by the Leadership Development Program. More information can be found on the Leadership Development Program Awards page.


Distinguished Faculty Ranks

Categories include Distinguished Professorship, Distinguished Teaching, and Distinguished Service. Open only to full-time faculty with the rank of Professor who have completed ten years of full-time teaching within the SUNY system.

Nominations can be submitted to SUNY in either the fall or spring semester. Please see the dates indicated below. If you intend on submitting a portfolio in the fall, please send an email to CELT before July 17, 2020 indicating intent to submit and specifying the award. If you intend on submitting a portfolio in the spring, please send an email to CELT before October 23, 2020 indicating intent to submit and specifying the award. 


An electronic copy of each of the portfolio items must be emailed to celt@brockport.edu for a fall submission before August 7, 2020 and for a spring submission before November 20, 2020.

Nominations can be submitted to SUNY in either the fall or spring semester. The weblinks below describe the process for submission.

  • For Fall 2020 decision, nominations are due Friday, September 11, 2020
  • For Spring 2021 decision, nominations are due Friday, January 8, 2021
