Brockport Debate Society

The Department of Communication is home to the Brockport Debate Society, a student-led organization on campus that focuses on enriching the Brockport community through improving students’ research, public speaking, and deliberation skills. The goal is to assist Brockport students in showcasing and teaching the means of civic discourse and debate as well as offering students invaluable opportunities with networking, event planning, and public relations in a welcoming, safe, and non-judgmental environment.

The club meets bi-monthly on campus to discuss current events and politics, learn new skills in research, public speaking, and debate, as well as plan upcoming events hosted by the Debate Society. The club offers opportunities for leadership in any of the designated officer positions:

  • President
  • Vice President
  • Treasurer
  • Secretary
  • Student Government Representative

Beyond activities in club meetings, the Brockport Debate Society also participates in multiple on-campus and off-campus activities such as public debates, Scholars Day presentations, invited lecturers and presenters, as well as a speech competition open to all Brockport Students.

The club accepts all students with varying interests and skill levels. Membership is open to all students who are in good standing with the Brockport Student Government and who have satisfactorily paid or been waived of the Brockport Student Government Activity Fee.
