Bio

Jake Nickell joined SUNY Brockport’s Department of Communication in Fall of 2019. He earned his B.A. in Criminology and Communication from Capital University in 2012 and his M.S. in Communication from Illinois State University in 2014. Additionally, Jake is a Ph.D. candidate through Wayne State University’s Department of Communication. His research interests largely pertain to rhetorical criticism, and his scholarship is dedicated to identity, critical-cultural studies, media theory, and gamic studies. As a Lecturer here at SUNY Brockport, Jake teaches a variety of courses, including Public Speaking, Intercultural Communication, Protest and Social Change, Argumentation and Debate, and Principles of Communication. He is also the Director of the CMC Speech Lab. When not working, Jake enjoys watching reality television and playing video games with friends and family.
