This option is available to other students who hold relevant undergraduate degrees
and wish to pursue a career in athletic administration. Our curriculum develops skills
in reading and writing about applicable research in the field. Students must complete
18 required credits with a free elective.
Professional Certification Option
This option is available to students who have completed an undergraduate degree in
physical education and are eligible for or currently hold NYS initial certification
in physical education.
Coursework revolves around administration of athletics, problem solving, sports marketing,
budget and finance, event and facilities management as well as a culminating internship
experience of the students choosing. Students must complete 21 additional required
credits for professional certification.
Curriculum & Learning Outcomes
Graduates of our program go on to have successful careers as Directors of Physical
Education and Athletics in school-based settings. Others work in colleges and universities
serving as Athletic Directors, Facilities and Event Management, Sports Information
Directors, and Sport Marketing and Promotion and Title IX Compliance Officers. Some
continue their studies in higher education and earn doctoral degrees and teach at
colleges and universities.
