Brockport checks the rate at which graduates from its teacher preparation programs attain teaching certification in New York. Data are aggregated by graduating cohort in an academic year. Currently, only the certification rate of initial-level programs are being calculated. Several of Brockport’s professional certification programs are online, and include students from out of state that do not seek New York State certification. So, the certification rate for professional certification programs has limited value, and are omitted from this document. Certification rates are calculated by verifying teaching certificates distributed to teacher candidates in the NYS TEACH system. We verify rates at the end of the calendar year, to account for candidates that apply for their certification within a few months of their graduation. For example, the 2018-2019 graduating cohorts’ certifications are verified at the end of 2019.

The 2018-2019 graduating cohort certification rate of candidates in an initial certification program was 73% (n=155).

The 2019-2020 graduating cohort certification rate of candidates in an initial certification program was 65% (n=169). However, in 2019-2020, there have been significant delays in processing the certification applications in New York State due to COVID-19. At the time of this report, there are 30 certification applications pending. Should those applications be approved, the certification rate will increase to 84%.
