Year 1: Reflect & Discover
- Visit the Career Services Website and browse through the available resources.
- Learn about the range of internships and research opportunities through the Summer Undergraduate
Research Program by attending undergraduate Research and Internship Day.
- Join Handshake to see what jobs and internships are available.
- Create a resume, see Career Services for guidance.
- Attend a career event such as Careers for the Common Good Fair (Fall), Jobs and Internships
Fair (Spring), Part-time Job Festival (Fall).

Year 2: Develop & Expand
- Imagine options for after graduation such as immediate employment or graduate studies.
- Explore potential double- majors or complementary minors.
- Attend Job Fairs: Part-time Job Festival (Fall), Careers for the Common Good Fair (Fall),
or Annual Jobs and Internship Fair (Spring).
- Find community service opportunities. The Community Development office is a great place
to start.
- Consider an immersive experience such as an internship, study-abroad, field-based learning,
or research.
- Discuss with professors opportunities to get involved in research projects.
- Present at Scholars Day or one of the undergraduate research conferences.

Year 3: Refine & Launch
- Reflect on your interests and skills in the Sociology major capstone course.
- Discuss post-graduation options with your professors.
- Gather materials for your career portfolio and update your resume.
- Create a LinkedIn account.
- Review the privacy settings on your social media accounts.
- Practice giving a brief description of your background and career goals.
- Schedule a mock interview with Career Services.

Year 4: Finding & Completing Internships
- Start early. Arranging for an internship can take up to a year.
- Search Handshake for internship opportunities on and off campus.
- Browse Indeed.com and Idealist.org for internships opportunities.
- Explore building an internship around a job you already have.
- Talk with your professors or other mentors about your interests and potential internship
opportunities.
- Apply for internships with an updated resume ready and a strong cover letter.
- Register for credit for your internship through either the Sociology Department or Career Services.
- Consider volunteer opportunities if an internship does not work in your schedule. Volunteering
is a great way to network and gain experience.
