Guidance for Essential and Non-Essential State Employees

Colleagues:

You may have heard Governor Cuomo announce today guidance on state employees and working from home.

We had hoped to have final SUNY guidance by close of business today regarding definitions of and restrictions around essential and non-essential employee status. On the 5 pm presidents’ call, we were assured that such guidance will come soon. Please be aware that in this changing circumstance, we are communicating what we know when we know it.

All employees should consider themselves designated as “essential employees” until communicated otherwise, and should come to work tomorrow as per normal. This status will likely change for many employees as we learn more. Please note that those employees eventually designated non-essential in relation to COVID-19 will be expected to work remotely. SUNY will be sending a telecommuting policy out that will outline further details. We expect to have much more clarity tomorrow. Please keep reading your emails as we respond to new information.
