Dear Brockport Students:

Given the uncertainty around the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and actions being taken by our local communities, it is important that we update you regarding the actions that that the College is taking that will affect the remainder of the spring semester. The following update contains information relating to potential credits/refunds for room, meal plans, and certain fees.

On Saturday, March 14, Monroe County, as well as several other surrounding counties, declared a state of emergency. These decisions were made with the intention of limiting the spread of the Coronavirus, and were quickly followed by the announcement that all public K-12 schools were closing indefinitely. Health officials continue to reinforce that social distancing is crucial to combatting COVID-19. We expect that more announcements regarding limiting contact with others and updates about the impacts of these decisions will be made frequently in the coming days and weeks, into the foreseeable future.

While the Brockport campus will remain open for the remainder of the semester, we must limit the number of people on campus, so we want to emphasize that all students are strongly encouraged to remain home following spring break. If you currently remain on campus, we ask that you reconsider. While nobody will be forced to leave campus, we hope everyone makes a socially responsible decision.

In recent days we have been working closely with SUNY leadership to identify and resolve any potential financial impact that the move to an adjusted educational delivery method may have on students and families.

During this process, we will work with you to ensure that you understand any and all effects on financial aid.

While we know this is a difficult time and certain actions that we’ve already taken are disappointing, please know that every decision we make has the safety of our students, faculty, and staff in mind.

Credit/Refund
For students who will return in the fall, we intend to credit unused room and board fees for students who have returned home for the remainder of the semester. For students who are graduating in Spring 2020 or Summer 2020, refunds will be credited to their student account. Students should enroll in direct deposit in order to receive refunds as quickly and securely as possible. Follow the steps below to enroll:

  1. Log into Web Banner
  2. Click on the Student Services tab
  3. Select the Student Accounts menu
  4. Click on the Refunds: Enrollment option located on the left side of the screen
  5. Follow the instructions to securely enter your bank account and other relevant information, review the completed form for accuracy and click on the Confirm button

Students who now plan to check out and leave for the semester have until Saturday, 3/21 at 11:59pm to indicate that they would like to do so. Residential Life/Learning Communities will email residential students a link to the housing portal to communicate their plans. We ask that you help us achieve our goal of reducing density on campus.

Fees
Still to be determined is how unused portions of certain fees will be refunded/credited. More information will follow in the coming days regarding fees.

Tuition
As you will still be receiving credit for coursework via distance learning and remote instruction, tuition will not be eligible for reimbursement. We are taking every measure to make sure you continue to receive a high-quality education.

Distance Learning
We have a process for students to request equipment to take home with them for distance learning. Updates and a form to request equipment are available under the Distance Learning FAQs at https://www.brockport.edu/coronavirus/

We know that you may have questions regarding the above and we will try to provide more specific guidance in the coming days. Thank you for your continued patience and understanding during these trying times as we try to offer the best solution we can for our students while keeping everyone safe. We strongly urge students to share the above information with their parents or guardians, as appropriate.

Sincerely yours,

President Macpherson
