Dear SUNY Brockport Community:
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently updated its guidelines, recommending that fully vaccinated people wear masks in public indoor settings in areas of substantial or high COVID transmission. Recently, Monroe County moved from a moderate transmission area to a substantial transmission area, and as such the Monroe County Department of Health also recommends masking indoors. We will follow this guidance.
Effective tomorrow, August 5, we are temporarily requiring all individuals (students, employees, and visitors, regardless of vaccination status) to wear a face covering indoors while on campus. This includes at Brockport Downtown and the Visual Studies Workshop. We also are raising the campus risk level to blue.
Please note that fully vaccinated individuals may remove their face covering when alone in their office, or when seated at their workstation if it is at least six feet away from others, or when presenting to an audience and six feet away from others. Unvaccinated individuals will need to continue to mask at all times when indoors. The updated policy can be found here.
These decisions are being made out of an abundance of caution as it is important to note that our campus has not experienced an increase in positive cases and our testing protocols are working. There have been no new cases of COVID-19 reported in our college community this summer. While the number of vaccinated faculty, staff, and students continues to rise, wearing a face covering inside will increase protection to our campus community and help reduce transmission.
All other aspects of our Fall Reopening Plan remain unchanged. We fully expect our plans for an in-person fall semester to move forward.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we navigate the pandemic. We will continue to monitor the situation, and I will advise the college community of any changes as needed based on new data or guidance received.
