COVID Testing Changes

Brockport Community:

I’m pleased to report that – in huge part due to our high campus vaccination rate – the number of COVID-19 infections on our campus has remained quite low. Therefore, as promised, we have been reviewing our campus health and safety guidelines in consultation with the Monroe County Department of Health.

Our efforts to combat the virus must continue to evolve as circumstances change and new information emerges. The Monroe County Health Department assures us that testing symptomatic individuals is far more effective in stopping the spread of the virus than testing asymptomatic vaccinated individuals. Therefore, we are adjusting our strategy.

The following changes are being implemented, effective immediately:

  • Vaccinated individuals will no longer be required to participate in COVID-19 surveillance pool testing. Unvaccinated individuals will continue to be required to test weekly.
  • We are now offering free rapid antigen testing to members of our campus community who are exhibiting COVID symptoms. Students who are experiencing symptoms should report to Brockway during testing hours. Employees who are experiencing symptoms should first contact Human Resources at hrcovid@brockport.edu for further instructions.
  • Vaccinated individuals who wish to test once a month are welcome to sign up to do so. Please note that some weeks, this testing may take the form of antigen testing rather than pool testing.

This pandemic is not yet over. COVID-19 remains a threat. Because Monroe County continues to be an area of high COVID-19 transmission, we will continue to follow the CDC’s recommendation and require that all individuals – regardless of vaccination status – wear face coverings indoors.

As has been the case throughout this pandemic, these guidelines are subject to change.
