Dr. Ewelina Barski (Modern Languages and Cultures) Publishes Article in Heritage Language Journal
Based on data collected from Spanish Heritage Speakers and Spanish monolinguals, this paper discusses the flexibility of the Overt Pronoun Constraint (OPC) in null-subject languages.
The OPC is a universal constraint on grammar, however, results from the data collected in this study add to the growing literature that shows that this constraint may not be as restrictive and that Spanish heritage speakers' interpretations diverge from that of monolingual speakers.
