September 21, 2019 10:30 am–2:00 pm

Prof. emeritus Ed Lehman passed away in July. There will be a memorial service at 10:30 am September 21, 2019, at the First Baptist Church in Brockport (124 Main St), followed by a Life Celebration Luncheon in the New York Room, Cooper Hall at 12 pm.

Distinguished Teaching Professor Emeritus of Sociology, Dr. Edward C. Lehman Jr. passed away in July. Dr. Lehman joined the Sociology faculty of the College at Brockport in 1970, where he built a distinguished career as a scholar, leader, and, above all, educator. He published several books on the sociology of religion, served as president of the Society for the Scientific Study of Religion and as editor of their flagship journal, and directed a community research center on campus. He also chaired the Department of Sociology at multiple points, guiding it through several major institutional transitions.

Since his retirement in 1998 Ed pursued his passion for traveling with his late wife Johnnie, became a highly accomplished wood-turner, and frequently enjoyed exercise, becoming one of the first regular visitors to the SERC. In many ways, Ed was a delightful and engaging member of the college and local communities.
