The Department of Communication at The College at Brockport, State University of New York, is accepting applications for an exceptional teacher and communication generalist to work as a full-time Lecturer beginning August 2019.

Major Responsibilities

• Teach four undergraduate classes each semester. Classes taught may include public speaking, protest and social change, principles of communication, argumentation and debate, and interviewing.

• Engage in service activities including student advisement.

Required Qualifications

MA in Communication or a related field from a college or university accredited by the US Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university; demonstrated evidence of successful teaching in higher education; experience teaching some of the courses listed above, and the ability to teach a diverse student population.

Preferred Qualifications

Ph.D. in Communication or related field from a college or university accredited by the US Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university; minimum of three years of teaching experience in higher education; experience mentoring students in a collegiate environment; and, an ability to work with professional colleagues who utilize a variety of approaches to communication.

Department Description

The Department of Communication houses approximately 200 undergraduate majors and minors, a graduate program, and six full-time faculty members. The Department’s recently redesigned undergraduate curriculum features three concentrations: Relationships and Social Identity, Leadership and Civic Engagement, and Influence and Persuasion.

The College

The College at Brockport serves a diverse student body of over 7,100 undergraduate and 1,100 graduate students, who are supported by more than 750 instructional faculty and professional staff. Located in western New York, the College benefits from a small-town atmosphere located near major metropolitan cities; Brockport is just 16 miles west of Rochester, 45 miles east of Buffalo, and 140 miles from Toronto.

Salary, Benefits and Appointment

The College offers a competitive salary and a generous benefits package including health, dental and vision insurances, retirement, and leave. This full-time, 10-month position will offer a 1 year contract followed by a 2 year contract and subsequent 3 year renewable contracts subject to satisfactory performance.
