The Office of Residential Life and Learning Communities supports The College at Brockport's mission by developing safe, inclusive, and vibrant communities that value academic excellence and overall student development. Through collaboration and unique relationships with students, our staff provides an appropriate balance of challenge and support, community development, and a purposeful residential curriculum with holistic student education at its core.
The Resident Director is responsible for:
• Administration and operation of a community of residential learning
• Housing approximately 200 to 400 first year, transfer, or continuing students
• Supervision of resident assistants and other student support staff
• Development and implementation of specific residential curriculum initiatives to build a comprehensive learning environment that fosters academic success and personal growth
• Involvement in the student conduct process
• Participating in campus events
• Serving on departmental and campus-wide committees
• Teaching RA classes
• Working with living learning communities and collaborating with other Enrollment Management and Student Affairs departments such as: the Educational Opportunities Program, First-Year experience, Transfer experience, Student Union and Activities, Prevention and Outreach services, and Academic Advisement
• Master’s Degree from a US Department of Education accredited college or university in College Student Personnel, Higher Education, Counseling or related field OR Master’s Degree in progress with at least 12 matriculated credits in one of these fields in addition to significant residential life experience.
• Demonstrated skill working with diverse college populations and commitment to creating an inclusive environment.
• Experience with student learning, development and current technology initiatives.
• Must be able to climb stairs, complete rounds, and physically respond to duty calls within residence halls across campus.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively on departmental initiatives including Living Learning Communities and Residential Education / Curriculum.
• Experience designing and implementing student learning outcomes.
• Experience with the SCT Banner information system, CBORD Odyssey HMS, myInvolvment and CampusLabs Baseline.
The Office of Residential Life/Learning Communities Residence halls at The College at Brockport are more than places where students sleep. They are vibrant, active communities where significant learning takes place. They are dedicated to student success through a commitment to collaboration, community, civility, diversity and responsible citizenship. The Residential Life/Learning Communities staff strive to enhance the experience of each of our residential students by providing developmentally appropriate educational initiatives, academic intervention and community building experiences. Our Living Learning Communities (LLCs) provide unique environments where select groups of students share common residential and learning experiences. Based on disciplinary and interdisciplinary themes, LLCs create intentional links between academic, social, and residential experiences. The program began in 2008 with just two pilot communities: Math & Science and the Brockport Global Village. Since then, the LLC program has grown in size and with nearly 850 students participating this year. Our on campus residential community is roughly around 2,700 with 14 residence halls.

There may be multiple openings for this position. This is a live in position that includes a furnished apartment and food allowance. The initial one-year appointment is renewable for up to four additional years contingent upon an annual successful performance review.
