Long-Term Volunteer Opportunities

Rochester Youth Year

Rochester Youth Year is an AmeriCorps VISTA program based in Rochester, NY. For over 50 years, VISTA has been helping bring communities and individuals out of poverty. Today, approximately 6,500 VISTA members serve in hundreds of nonprofit organizations and public agencies throughout the country. Members provide indirect, capacity-building service to support sustainable solutions to poverty. For more information, click here.

  • 365 days (August - July)
  • 35-40 hours/week serving with a community organization
  • Monthly team meetings and professional development
  • Indirect, capacity-building service ONLY
  • Recent graduate
  • Priority to alumni of Rochester-area colleges
  • No housing assistance
  • Healthcare allowance over $7,000
  • 10 personal and 10 sick days
  • Relocation allowance
  • 30% off tuition at Warner School of Education
  • Full end of service benefits: education award OR cash stipend

Rochester Urban Fellows

Rochester Urban Fellows is a 10-week summer program for local undergraduates who attend a Rochester-area college or are native to Rochester and attend college elsewhere. Participants have opportunities to develop personal and professional skills, increase their understanding of urban issues and poverty, and develop emotional ties to Rochester.   • Urban issue seminars every Wednesday
  • Both indirect AND direct service
  • Current undergraduate
  • Attend Rochester-area school or native to Rochester
  • Free housing
  • No healthcare allowance
  • Only emergency days off
  • No relocation allowance
  • 30% off tuition at Warner School of Education
  • Prorated end of service benefits: education award OR cash stipend

All Hands and Hearts

In the Fall of 2017, All Hands Volunteers and Happy Hearts Fund announced the merger to form All Hands and Hearts – Smart Response. Together, we focus on delivering a Smart Response to those reeling from disaster both domestically and internationally.

At All Hands and Hearts, we believe that every individual should have the chance to volunteer through our free and open-door approach. We believe in giving back without limitations. Whether you are 18 or 80, worked your whole life in construction or have never touched a power tool, you are always welcome. We believe in the strength of diversity. And no matter your race, religion, national origin, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation or age, we believe that together, we can make a difference.
