Game On: Homecoming & Family Weekend
Homecoming will highlight soccer champion Abby Wambach, the undefeated Golden Eagle football team, and departmental 50th anniversaries.
A combination of new programming and longstanding traditions will bring together students, families, alumni, friends, and campus leadership for Homecoming & Family Weekend 2017, October 19 to 21, at SUNY Brockport.
A lineup of Homecoming activities — more than 25 of them — includes a Q&A session with Abby Wambach, 50th-anniversary celebrations honoring 10 academic programs and the Class of 1967, a full slate of athletic events, pre- and post-game festivities, alumni reunion games and events, and more.
Saturday will culminate in a Q&A session with Rochester native Wambach, a FIFA Women's World Cup soccer champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist. Taking place at the Special Events Recreation Center (SERC) at 8 pm, the session will be moderated by Jeff DiVeronica, sports reporter for the Democrat & Chronicle. Students, faculty and staff, and alumni can purchase discounted tickets online. Tickets are $25 for the general public.
All are invited to cheer on student athletes and alumni in Homecoming games, celebrating this year’s theme: ‘Game On.’ Men’s soccer and field hockey will compete in Senior Day games on Saturday. Alumni reunions for women’s and men’s basketball, baseball, and men’s soccer will include alumni games and pre- and post-game entertainment.
In the final game of the weekend, the No. 15 ranked Golden Eagles will take on Hartwick College in the Homecoming football game at 4 pm at Eunice Kennedy Shriver Stadium, preceded by a festival and parade. A pre-game alumni tailgate will take place at 2:30 pm in Tuttle South Gymnasium, followed by a post-game reception from 7 to 9 pm at Stoneyard Breakfast Company.
The College’s anthropology, chemistry, dance, earth sciences, economics, geology, physics, political science, sociology, and theatre programs turn 50 this year, and all are invited to celebrate with professors and alumni. Departmental 50th-anniversary receptions will take place at 1:30 pm on Saturday. Register for free.
Also celebrating a 50th anniversary is the Class of 1967, which will be honored at the annual Hartwell Society Luncheon on Friday at 12:30 pm. On this momentous occasion, all members of the Hartwell Society, a special group made up of those who graduated 50 years ago or more, will be recognized while the Class of 1967 is inducted into the circle. Several events throughout the weekend will allow the class to reconnect, reminisce, and enjoy the renovated campus.
Among other events throughout the weekend:
- Homecoming Pageant featuring student talent
- Class of 1967 and 2017 Tree Dedication Ceremony
- North Campus Opening Celebration
- Homecoming Pep Rally
- Brock ‘n’ Bowl at bowling alley Brockport Bowl
- Alumni Awards & Athletic Hall of Fame Ceremony honoring standout alumni
- GOLD (Graduates of the Last Decade) Party at the Port at Stoneyard Brewing Company

All Homecoming attendees are encouraged to wear green and gold throughout the weekend to show Brockport pride.
