Brockport Shines in SUNY Student Opinion Survey

Results show that students highly rank several aspects of the College’s student life environment, athletics, and various support services.

Every three years, a random sampling of State University of New York (SUNY) students share their impressions, levels of satisfaction, and perceptions of academic and social life at their respective colleges in the SUNY Student Opinion Survey (SOS). The College at Brockport uses SOS feedback to address areas for improvement and highlight areas of success.

The College ranked No. 1 in eight categories among the 12 SUNY university colleges and No. 1 in three categories among all 27 SUNY four-year institutions. Here’s what rose to the top:

Intercollegiate athletic programs

No. 1 among all 27 four-year SUNY institutions

Each year, nearly 650 student-athletes compete on Brockport’s 23 NCAA Division III athletic teams. Golden Eagles who don the Green and Gold jersey not only excel on the field, but also in the classroom and the community.

Student union

The hub of campus community life, the Seymour College Union provides resources for student organizations, offers dining and shopping options, and hosts a variety of campus programs. “The U” is the base for Brockport Student Government, which ranked No. 5 out of 27 in the SOS.

Library resources and library services

The first category, library resources, pertains to physical collections and online databases. The second, library services, pertains to reference support and research assistance.

The Office of Campus Recreation operates the Special Events Recreation Center — home of a 10,000-square-foot fitness center — in which it offers personal training, club and intramural sports, and weekly group exercise classes. The Hazen Center for Integrated Care promotes a different kind of health and wellness, encompassing the Student Health Center, Counseling Center, and Prevention and Outreach Services.
