COVID-19 Building Closure and Locking Policy

All academic and operational centric buildings on campus will remain locked at all times due to the following factors:

  • Distance/on-line learning protocols in place
  • Decreased staffing levels on campus
  • Decreased number of students on campus

Exceptions to the “Building Closure and Locking Policy” include the following locations:

  • Dailey Hall – Computer Lab / 1st Floor
    • Sunday 1 pm - 5 pm
    • M-F 9 am - 7 pm
    • Saturday - Closed
  • Brockway Dining Hall
    • Sunday through Sunday (Hours may change depending on several factors)
      • Brunch Hours 11 am - 12:30 pm
      • Dinner Hours 5 pm - 6:30 pm
  • Hazen Health Center - Hazen Health Center will be serving students and be staffed from the hours of M – F 8 am – 4:45 pm; however their doors will remain locked and all students are advised to call prior to coming to the Health Center. All staff have keys to the building and do not require assistance.  
    • M-F 8 am - 4:45 pm
  • Allen Administration Building
    • M-F 7 am - 5 pm

Should a faculty or staff member need to enter a building for work purposes only and they do not have a key to that building and require the building to be unlocked, they should contact the University Police non-emergency number:

  • University Police at (585) 395-2226

Signage will be posted on the interior of the build’s door indicating this.  If a faculty or staff member makes a request to have a building unlocked by University Police, that individual must practice social distancing protocols and remain 6 feet from the responding University Police Officer upon their arrival to unlock the building. 

If a faculty or staff member uses their college issued key to unlock a building, the staff member is responsible for ensuring the building remains locked from the exterior.  Upon completion of their approved work in the building, the faculty of staff member must check the exterior door to confirm the door is secure. 

Approved Reasons for Building Entry

Research related activities

Conducting on-line lectures for classes (includes recording lectures for future classes)

Secure work materials, textbooks, documents, etc.

Meeting with a student for lab or other coursework that has been approved by Department Chair and/or Dean

Clerical or Administrative Staff for the processing of paperwork, conducting administrative tasks, or performing other job duties that cannot be accomplished remotely. 

Contractor Related Building Access

During this time of “altered campus operations,” contractors who are working on campus may need access to certain building locations, dependent on the work they are doing.   Contractors must adhere to social distancing protocols. 

Prior to the commencement of any work on the SUNY Brockport campus, all contractors will be required to complete a questionnaire that has been developed to safeguard the SUNY Brockport campus and prevent community spread of the novel coronavirus (See Attachment #1). 

It is the responsibility of the contractor’s campus project contact (i.e., Campus Project Manager or Physical Plant management) to ensure this document is completed, signed and kept on file.  It will also be the responsibility of the contactor’s campus project contact to work with the contractor to provide them access to buildings on campus as well as ensure that those buildings are locked once the contractors work is completed (on a daily basis).  


This afore referenced policy applies to SUNY Brockport Main Campus only.  Hours and building operations for the Brockport Downtown Campus/REOC and the Visual Studies Workshop are below: 

Effective Monday, March 23, 2020, the Rochester EOC and Brockport Downtown will change their hours to 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, Monday through Friday. The building will be closed on Saturday and Sunday.

  • All faculty and staff must be working from home at this point.
  • Students will not be able to access the facility.
  • Security will be on-site from 7am-3pm in the event faculty and staff need to access the facility (only to come in, retrieve something, and then return home). You will not be permitted to work in the building. If anyone needs to access the building, they must first contact the security guard on site by phone at (585) 327-4064.

Effective immediately, the Visual Studies Workshop will be closed indefinitely.

  • All faculty are working from home.
  • Students will not be able to access the facility.
